There are several types of silicone tapes produced today. The most commone are silicone splice tape, silicone foam tape, silicone sponge tape, self vulcanizing silicone tape and high voltage silicone tapes. Each tape has its own unique features and adhesive qualities.
Silicone splice tape, constructed of a PET, polyester film, with a pressure sensitive silicone adhesive is often used to splice papers, tapes, films or other substrates coated with silicone. Since silicone has a very low surface energy, meaning that adhesives and other things don’t like to stick to it, special silicone pressure sensitive adhesives have been developed to aggressively bond to those low energy surfaces. Also this type of tape is used in the plating industry as a masking tape and also for masking circuit boards during wave soldering.
Many of these splice tapes are stocked in log rolls, (rolls 4 feet wide by 72 yards log) and are slit or cut to the with that the customer requires. This reduces lead-time and allows us to custom slit to the most economical width. Also with log rolls in stock, lead-times are extremely short so orders can ship in 1 day or sometimes the same day if urgent.
The polyester film is stiff and tough with no elongation during normal use. The stiff polyester film with the silicone adhesive make these tapes one of the most popular types of polyester tape.
