Reflective tapes are used to make something conspicuous, easy to see.  Conspicuity tape is used for highway signs, trailers, fire hydrants and other items to help improve safety.       

For example, red and white reflective tape placed on the sides of trailers, make them more visible, especially at night time, when headlights illuminate and reflect off the sign.
